Frequently Asked Questions - Running the NFSNET Client

Can I use my computer while the NFSNET client is running?
Yes, if there is enough memory in the computer you should not notice any performance degradation as long as you are not running other applications which require large amounts of memory. The NFSNET client runs at idle priority which means it only gets CPU time if the computer has nothing else to do.

How do I stop the client quickly and cleanly?
Create a file called stop.txt in the processors/p0 directory and the client will stop sieving when it finishes the current line, send in the results and then shut down. This usually takes somewhere between a few seconds and a minute or so. Remember to remove the stop.txt file before restarting the client!

Can the NFSNET Client take advantage of multi-CPU systems?
Yes, the NFSNET Client was design to work efficiently in multi-CPU systems. Configuration for multi-CPU systems is straightforward but not currently documented. For instructions, please contact the NFSNET admin team.

Can the NFSNET Client work in clustered environment which may or may not be diskless?
Yes, clustered environments are supported, including diskless clusters. For instructions on how to configure for these environments, please contact the NFSNET admin team.
